How deep does the trench for a water line need to be?

In our area of East Tennessee, the trench must be dug deep enough to be below the frost line, which is typically at least 18-24 inches deep. This prevents the water in the pipe from freezing and bursting during the winter. We know all the local codes and requirements.

What happens if you hit another utility line while digging?

Safety is our top priority. That’s why it is absolutely required by law to call 811 before we start any digging. This free service marks all public utilities (gas, power, cable). We then dig with great care, using the markings to avoid any other lines.
