Foundation & Basement Excavation Services

Before you can build up, you have to dig down. The strength and stability of your entire home depend on the quality of the excavation for its foundation or basement. This is the critical first step, and it has to be perfect. Jefferson Land Clearing & Excavation provides the precise, professional digging your new home deserves.

Foundation & Basement Excavation in Jefferson, Hamblen, & Grainger Counties

Digging a hole for a new house is not as simple as it looks. It requires an expert operator who can read site plans and dig to the exact depth and dimensions needed. A foundation that’s dug improperly, too shallow, unlevel, or in the wrong spot can lead to serious and expensive structural problems like cracked walls and sticking doors down the road.

At Jefferson Land Clearing & Excavation, we specialize in residential excavation. We understand that we are literally laying the groundwork for your family’s biggest investment. We use our skill and powerful equipment to create a perfect footprint for your builder, making sure your home gets the solid, stable start it needs.

We Lay the Groundwork for a Solid Build

We work closely with homeowners and general contractors to make sure the excavation phase of your project goes smoothly and stays on schedule. We handle the entire process, from breaking ground to hauling away the last truckload of dirt.

Our foundation and basement excavation services include:

  • Initial Site Prep: We clear the building site of any trees, brush, or debris before we start digging.
  • Precise Excavation: Following your blueprints exactly, we dig to the specified depth and dimensions for your foundation.
  • Full Basement Digs: We have the equipment to dig deep for full basements, creating that valuable extra living space for your home.
  • Crawl Space & Slab Foundations: We also perform the precise digging needed for crawl space and slab-on-grade foundations.
  • Excess Dirt Removal: We will load up all the leftover dirt from the dig site and haul it away, leaving a clean area for your foundation crew.
  • Backfilling: After the foundation walls are built and cured, we come back to carefully push dirt back in around the new walls.

Frequently Asked Questions About Foundation Excavation

The main difference is depth. A slab foundation only requires us to dig a few feet down to create a level pad with reinforced footers. A full basement requires us to dig at least 8 or 9 feet deep across the entire footprint of the house, which means moving a much larger amount of dirt.
We work directly from the site plans provided by your builder or architect. The corners of the new house are marked with survey stakes, and we use those markers and the blueprints to make sure we dig in the exact right spot and to the exact right size.
There’s a lot of it! We keep some of the dirt on-site to use for “backfilling” around the foundation later. We load the rest of the excess dirt, called “spoil,” into dump trucks and haul it completely off your property.
After your foundation walls have been poured and have had time to cure and strengthen, we come back with our equipment. Backfilling is the process of carefully pushing the reserved dirt back up against the outside of the new foundation walls to provide stability.
For an average-sized house, the digging process usually takes one to three days. This can change depending on the size of the home, the type of foundation (basement or slab), the soil conditions, and the weather.
